VTRANS TO HOLD PUBLIC TRANSIT FORUMS
MONTPELIER – The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), in conjunction with local public transit providers, in the coming months will host a series of public forums designed to receive comments regarding the future of public transportation.
The forums, which will be held in a number of locations across the state, will provide area stakeholder groups as well as the general public the opportunity to provide input that will help VTrans and the state’s 12 public transit providers form effective Short Range Public Transportation Plans.
“With gas prices above $4 a gallon, more and more Vermonters are looking to public transportation as a way to help them contain their commuting costs,” said VTrans Secretary Neale Lunderville. “These forums are an opportunity for the public to voice their opinion on the future of public transit in Vermont, understand more about how it works and suggest new or revised bus routes.”
When completed, each public transit provider’s Short Range Public Transportation Plan will include a review of the provider’s service area, define goals and objectives, examine current and future demand for expansion of services, and identify a marketing strategy.
Information about all 12 of Vermont’s public transit providers can be found at the State’s new GoVermont website at www.connectingcommuters.org.
Information regarding how to get involved in the Short Range planning process can be found on VTrans’ Website at http://www.aot.state.vt.us/publictrans/transit.htm.
